Small files.
Clear purpose.
This Cookie Policy explains how Ciel Asylum may use cookies, local storage, identifiers, and similar technologies to operate the website, protect forms, support commerce, and understand website usage.
What each category is for.
Not every category will be active on every page or for every visitor. Technologies can also change as the site, checkout experience, and service providers evolve.
Site operation.
Supports core functions such as sessions, forms, security, cart or checkout behavior, and other features needed for the site to work as expected.
Understanding use.
Helps measure visits, sessions, device/browser characteristics, approximate location, and interaction patterns so we can understand website performance.
Remembering context.
May preserve preferences, session state, cart information, or other choices that improve continuity across pages or visits.
Connected services.
Payment, analytics, security, embedded, or commerce providers may use their own technologies when their services are loaded or used.
1. What Cookies and Similar Technologies Are
Cookies are small pieces of data stored by a browser and associated with a website. Websites may also use local storage, session storage, pixels, scripts, identifiers, tokens, or related technologies to maintain state, recognize a browser or session, protect forms, support transactions, and measure website use.
Some technologies are set directly by Ciel Asylum's website or hosting environment. Others may be set or processed by third-party services that provide analytics, security, commerce, payment, or related functionality.
2. How Ciel Asylum May Use These Technologies
Ciel Asylum may use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Operate WordPress and website features.
- Maintain session, cart, checkout, or account-related state where WooCommerce or related functionality is used.
- Protect forms and interactions against spam, bots, and automated abuse.
- Understand website traffic and performance through Google Analytics.
- Remember preferences or choices where a feature requires them.
- Support payment, order, checkout, and fraud-prevention workflows.
- Maintain security, diagnose errors, and help protect website infrastructure.
3. Current & Expected Technologies
The exact cookies visible in a browser can vary by page, configuration, logged-in state, checkout activity, consent choices, and provider updates. The table below identifies examples that may be present based on Ciel Asylum's current website stack and planned services.
| Technology / Example | Category | Purpose | Provider |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Analytics | Stores a first-party client identifier used by Google Analytics to distinguish users and sessions when analytics storage is enabled. | Google Analytics |
_ga_* |
Analytics | May be used by Google Analytics properties to maintain and measure session or property-related analytics state. | Google Analytics |
_GRECAPTCHA |
Necessary / Security | Set by Google reCAPTCHA when executed to support risk analysis used to distinguish legitimate interactions from automated abuse. | Google reCAPTCHA |
| reCAPTCHA risk-analysis signals | Necessary / Security | Google reCAPTCHA v3 may process browser, device, technical, and interaction signals in the background to generate a risk score for protected form submissions. | Google reCAPTCHA |
| WooCommerce session/cart technologies | Necessary / Functional | May preserve cart contents, session state, checkout context, order attribution, or related commerce functionality where WooCommerce features are active. | WooCommerce / Ciel Asylum |
| WordPress session/preferences | Necessary / Functional | May support login, administrative, preference, or session functionality depending on how the site is used. | WordPress / Ciel Asylum |
| Payment-provider technologies | Necessary / Third Party | May support checkout, fraud prevention, transaction processing, security, or session continuity when a payment provider is loaded or selected. | PayPal, Stripe, Square |
4. Google Analytics
Ciel Asylum plans to use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the website. Google's default Analytics implementation can collect session statistics, approximate geolocation, browser information, and device information.
Google Analytics uses a first-party cookie named _ga to store a client identifier that helps distinguish users and sessions when analytics storage is enabled. Depending on the implementation, additional Google Analytics cookies or identifiers may also appear.
Where applicable consent controls are implemented, analytics storage may be limited until the relevant visitor choice has been made.
5. Google reCAPTCHA v3
Ciel Asylum uses Google reCAPTCHA v3 through Contact Form 7 to help protect forms and interactions from bots, spam, and automated abuse. reCAPTCHA v3 works in the background and uses risk analysis to generate a score rather than requiring most visitors to complete a visible challenge.
Google states that reCAPTCHA sets the necessary _GRECAPTCHA cookie when executed for the purpose of providing its risk analysis. reCAPTCHA may also process technical, browser, device, and interaction signals needed to evaluate whether activity appears legitimate or automated.
Because reCAPTCHA is a security control, blocking scripts, cookies, or related technologies required for its operation may prevent a protected form or action from working correctly. Google's processing is also subject to Google's applicable privacy terms and policies.
6. WooCommerce, Payments & Connected Services
WooCommerce and connected payment services may use cookies or similar technologies to maintain cart or checkout state, process a transaction, prevent fraud, associate an order with a session, or protect payment workflows.
Third-party payment providers operate under their own terms and privacy practices. Their cookies and technologies may change independently of Ciel Asylum.
7. Your Cookie Choices
Most browsers allow you to review, delete, or block cookies and to control whether websites can store certain types of data. Browser settings vary by device and browser.
If Ciel Asylum presents a cookie or privacy preference control, you can use that interface to manage the categories offered through the control. Necessary technologies may remain active where they are required for site operation, security, a transaction you request, or another function that cannot work without them.
Blocking or deleting cookies can affect website functionality. For example, cart state, checkout continuity, preferences, security checks, or analytics choices may be lost or may need to be set again.
For questions about cookie practices, contact privacy@cielasylum.com.
8. Changes to This Cookie Policy
Ciel Asylum may update this Cookie Policy when website functionality, analytics, security tools, commerce services, payment providers, consent mechanisms, or legal requirements change.
The effective date shown at the top of this page will be updated when a revised version is published.
